Peer Connections is a monthly state wide meeting we hold for Recovery Coaches who currently work in the substance use disorder recovery field. We typically provide lunch during this meeting and is open to all recovery coaches working the field. Here are some topics we go over during our monthly meeting at The PIER Recovery Community Center:
Employment Opportunities: We gather different employment opportunities and openings through out the region. We talk about who is hiring and what the positions require. This is also a great way for recovery coaches to network and explore different agency needs.
Resources: Recovery Coaches from all over the region share and discuss the many resources available for participants who struggle with a substance use disorder. We share resources around treatment options, recovery programs, and other resources such as food, housing and employment.
Advocacy: During this time we talk about what is happening on state and national levels around substance use disorder treatment and approaches to recovery.
Community Events: We share and discuss the many recovery related events through out the region. This is a great time to see what is happening at each agency. Events discussed in the past are recovery month block parties and sober dances.
Education & Training: This part of the meeting takes up most of our time as we discuss the different CEU training available for peer support specialists and recovery coaches. Most of the training's offered by our agency are provided and presented by peer support specialists and recovery coaches.
Networking: We have many peers who join us from other agencies and we share our resources and networks with each other. This is a great time to meet other recovery coaches in the field.
